What really happens to tiled roofs over time?

It’s unlikely that the average home owner would venture up onto their roof to inspect its condition. Even if you did, would you know if it required maintenance or restoring? That’s why we offer a FREE no obligation roof inspection and quote to help educate homeowners who are concerned about the health of their roof.

Below is an explanation of how and why roofs degrade over time and some of the issues they can experience.

The concrete roof tiles are generally coated with a type of coloured slurry and then a clear glaze to protect them. With time, the weather etches away the glaze exposing the slurry colour (You will notice this if you rub the tiles and look at your fingers). This could also mean the tiles are absorbing some water which tends to cause more movement. This will then crack the ridge pointing and deteriorate the ridge bedding. At this point the ridge tiles could become loose and in strong winds can easily be blown off. Loose tiles can and have been fatal.

Returning your roof to as good as new with 21st century safety standards can be made to look easy by professionals. The roofer/s diligently work away at cleaning, bedding, pointing, changing tiles and resurfacing roofs until they are returned to their former glory. Rooftop Restorations uses the latest proven products to rejuvenate your roof.
